About us
Some young maidens, members of Nirmala Bhavan Institute Cheruvandoor, were under external and internal difficulties. They found that it was difficult to fulfill their desire of leading a fully consecrated life as a religious community for the glory of God. They informed this painful situation and their life long desire to lead a religious and fully consecrated life to Archbishop Mar Antony Padiyara, the then Archbishop of Changanacherry. Under these circumstances, after a long term Prayer and study Mar Antony Padiyara decided to start a new congregation for the ones who are ready to offer themselves cent percent to the Lord.

On 21 September 1974 ten young maidens initiated their experience of community life of total dedication to God in accordance with the evangelical counsels in a small house situated in the Archdiocesan property in the parish of Amboori, in Thiruvananthapuram District under the guidance of Sisters of Destitute who were appointed as their formatives by Archbishop Mar Antony Padiyara. After having completed their religious formation and canonical novitiate under the guidance of Rev. Sr.Loyola S.D., these 10 pioneers made their temporary vows on 21st November 1977 and their final vows on 25th November 1982. In the words of founder, the community (A.S.M.I) has been formed for, one those who are willing to offer themselves cent percent to the Lord.

In 1978 Cardinal Antony Padiyara, the founder himself approved our Constitution and Directory and recognized our community as a Pious Union belonging to the Changanacherry Archeparchy. On 8th December 2004, after having consulted with the Apostolic see and the Major Archbishop of Syro Malabar Church, Mar Joseph Powathil, Metropolitan Archbishop of Changanacherry through his Decree No 1035/2004 erected the Apostolic Sisters of Mary Immaculate as Congregation of Eparchial Right, with all rights duties and privileges attached to such status in common law of the Syro Malabar Church.

Today there are 95 professed members and ten candidates including postulants and novices engaging actively in family apostolate, parish ministry and charitable activities for the service of the Church and for the glory of the God in diocese of Changanacherry, Thuckalay, Ernakulam, Kanjirappally and Thalasseri, through the consecrated life based on prayer and evangelical counsels of chastity, poverty and obedience.
